During 2006, we managed to stabilize the lives of 150 children, particularly the 26 children in Kawangware (Nairobi slum) who did not have a safe place to go home at night, who now live in the Mercy Center Dormitory. The kids are healthy and eating well. The school is progressing and for the new school year 2007 (the Kenyan school year runs Jan-December), a new grade, "Class 6" will be added, so the oldest kids don't have to leave the school.
During 2007, our goals are to ensure that the schools in Busia and Nairobi have the resources to function properly and provide a basic education to the students, and to ensure that all 150 kids are well fed and healthy. If we obtain sufficient resources, we may consider looking for a piece of land and taking initial steps toward building a single facility to house and school all the kids, and get the Nairobi kids out of the slum and into the clean air of a country-side campus. But one step at a time!
This progress is thanks to all of our fantastic contributions as listed on the "Our Donors" page, with special thanks to the Sizer family and the Knox Presbyterian Church in Acton, Ontario.
